Pulse Magnet EPICS Waveform Support
Two choices were tested to explore the remote waveform access functionality. One solution is to develop EPICS soft-IOC and use the modules of ASYN to communicate with Ethernet-based oscilloscope or LXI via the interface of Ethernet. The module of ASYN supports some communication protocols, VXI-11 or TCP is chosen to connect oscilloscopes. The other solution of the waveform of EPICS support implements commercial EPICS oscilloscope from ZTEC. EPICS-base is developed in the scope of ZT4612 as an IOC. The host client can use the EDM to examine waveform and manage oscilloscope without building another IOC to manage. Performance and functionality tests are still continuing.
USER INTERFACE
The EDM page is to control a voltage and a current of the kicker high voltage power supply. The functions are “HVPS Enable”, “HVPS Disable”, “Warm up”, “Power ON”, “Power OFF”, “Reset”, and “Standby”. Information of status and interlock is exposed on right part of EDM page. The high pulser voltage can be set in variety of 0 – 40 kV. A count down timer showed on page of EDM demonstrates the progress of warm up. It shows the kicker charged to 0.75 kV. The kicker is activated at 3 Hz which is the rate of recurrence the TPS.
The Ethernet-based oscilloscope is used to monitor waveform by tools of EPICS CA.
(a) The tube of thyratron warm up process in proceed.
(b) The kicker high voltage power supply switch on and voltage sets 0.75 kV. The EDM page lower part will show kicker current waveform when trigger is active. The second left module of F3RP61-2L is serving as an EPICS IOC to manage a power supply of pulse magnet.
The left vertical scale is obtained from oscilloscope. The right vertical scale is transformed to current. The kicker current waveform displayed on control page helps operators to simply monitor working status of kicker. The PLC provides with 5 modules.
As the current of pulse magnet only lives for a few hundred microseconds for septums and a few microseconds for kickers. The peak detector will be executed to provide control system a quasi-DC reading for the pulse magnet peak current in 3 Hz to examine the waveform of transient, beside the oscilloscope. The pulser control test bed purpose is to explore the applicability and capability of the EPICS IOC set in PLC for the applications of TPS. This solution offers a low cost alternative besides a PCI EPICS IOC of TPS standard.
