Bridges crumbling? Roads in need of resurfacing? If only they’d been monitored with a Golden River M671/2 Weigh-In-Motion system beforehand
When a road deteriorates or a bridge starts to show signs of wear and tear, closing the routes through may seem like the obvious answer – but it’s only a temporary fix – not a long-term solution and may cause disruption to motorists. It also seems like the lazy way out of good traffic planning and traffic management.
So what do you do? Well, first you need to assess the situation – you need traffic monitoring. Golden River, a brand within the leading traffic management group ClearView Traffic are experts in the field of traffic monitoring and thanks to their M671/2 Weigh-In-Motion system, they’ve helped traffic engineers capture traffic data such as vehicle weight, identification for weight-limit enforcement and bridge-overload protection.
Part of the Marksman traffic data collection range, the M671/2 measures the downward forces on the road surface meaning it directly generates data about the factors that cause wear and deterioration of the road’s surface and construction.
Road safety also needs to be considered. Roads and bridges that aren’t smooth to drive on or are dotted with potholes and cracks in the surface could lead to accidents and collisions meaning high costs and high risks for motorists.
Bridge protection is such a significant traffic management concern that Golden River set up their own system, enabling bridges to be monitored and maintained thoroughly. Traffic data is recorded sensitively and with meticulous accuracy. Golden River’s M671/2 Weigh-In-Motion system senses everything from the slightest vibration to peak accelerations, logging them all consistently.
Golden River’s M671/2 Weigh-In-Motion system also offers major enhancements to the efficiency and effectiveness of vehicle weight enforcement operations. The optimum time of day for enforcement programmes can be identified.
The M671/2 Weigh-In-Motion system can select and identify overweight vehicles by axle load, gross weight or classification type. The result? Time is saved by eliminating legally-loaded vehicles and allowing them to pass without being stopped.
