What’s switch mode power supplies
Problems of linear power supply will likely be the weight and size of this transformer. The size is required because of the low frequency (50 to 60 Hz). For the similar power output, the transformer size sets while the frequency rises (up to a point). The SMPS takes advantage of this by chopping the AC line’s waveform into a lot of little pieces and changing them to a desired voltage level which has a smaller transformer.
