How to go about appliance repair
Appliances are something we see everywhere in your daily lives. They help us with our work and make doing things easier while improving the dexterity of life. As much as we would desire, appliances do not last forever. They get used down and fall apart or stop working fully. This could take place even before the guarantee has expired. An apprentice may need to be called when this happens but sometimes you may have to do appliance repair yourself with some necessary tools.
There are three factors required when you do appliance repair by yourselves, whatever may be the brand or the type. The three things are the knowledge of the model number of the appliance; safety precautions desired while working and the applicable tools required for the repair.
1.Model number: Knowing the model version is the most significant step in the repair process as the model version is principal to order parts and view diagrams which are helpful regarding repairs. The model number is also necessary when checking up the guarantee of the appliance.
2.Safety precautions: These include unplugging the appliance before opening it. You dont’t want to get electrocuted! Allow some time for it to cool off and then the problems can be diagnosed. As most devices are made of metal, it is recommended to wear a pair of thin work gloves to prevent cutting yourself.
3: Common Tools:Some of the common tools used for appliance repair are:
Nut driver set: There is a 7 piece nut driver set which as the name implies is used to run down nuts until the screw is fastened. They may have a screw driver type handle and also can be used to do other things.
a:Hose clamp pliers: This is one of the fundamental hand tools. It is used to put in and remove spring tension hose clamps which are found on the appliance drains and to fill hoses. They have two hinged jaws that may be serrated. Their handles are made of wax or plastic dipped in order to get a good and fast grip.
b:Screw driver set: A screw driver set would consist about 4-6 screw drivers. These are long and straight hand tools of different lengths which are used to drive screws of various types into the receptacle using its distinctive head shape.
c:Adjustable wrench set: A wrench is a tool with which extra force can be applied and the use of a mechanical force in applying a torque to a nut or bolt. Wrenches come with one end open and one end in a ring shape. A spanner wrench differs in which it is made with a series of tabs all around the circumference of the wrench.
d:Meters: There are several meters: the ohm meter, voltmeter and an amp meter. An ohm meter measures electrical resistance. A voltmeter is a device that measures the amount of electrical difference in two points in an electrical circuit. An amp meter measures the electric current in a circuit. Amp is the measurement of electricity.
