How To Purify Drinking Water
Clean drinking water is essential to life. The impurities in our bodies and the levels of those impurities are functions of several variables. Some examples of these variables are the rate of production of natural impurities as the result of metabolic processes as well as the rate of introduction of chemical contaminants found in the water we drink.
Contaminants can come from a variety of sources such as particulates, chemical pollution, microbial contamination and even packaging. So, how can water be purified so that it is of the highest possible quality?
There are several steps that one can take to purify water and turn it into crystal clear potable water that is ready to remove metabolic and environmental contaminants from your body.
Micro-Filtration. Particulates involve more than just the ones you see. Particulates can range from visible size to pieces of grit, dust and silt that can be nanometers in size. This type of non-digestible particulate matter can interfere with nutrient absorbtion in your intestines and must be removed by the appropriately sized microfilter.
Ultra-Violet Irradiation. Don’t freak out when you hear the word radiation. This is not nuclear fission. Ultra-Violet Irradiation is simply the process of exposing harmful microbes to the band in the UV spectrum that eliminates them. UV irradiated water is microbe free.
Activated Carbon Filtering. Activated Carbon is a great and one of the most highly used methods for removing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from drinking water. Organophilic compounds are attracted to the surface of activated carbon and trapped allowing the water to pass through purified and free of organics. That will make you liver happy.
Ion Exchange Filtering. Something that activated carbon doesn’t catch is heavy metals such as lead. Ion exchange easily picks up the slack on this one. Heavy metallic ions are captures and ones with a positive charge are traded for (H+) ions. Additionally, negative ions are traded for (OH-) in their place. What you end up with are positive and negative ions replace with (H+) and (OH-) which combines into H2O or pure water.
Reverse Osmosis. The pinnacle of water purification dragging the Ohms of resistance down to levels required for environmental contaminant testing. Reverse osmosis is the process that finishes the job than any of the others may have missed.
Water that pure is ready to cleanse your body by first and foremost, not introducing any new contaminants allowing it to remove environmental contaminants that have been breathed in or introduced by a variety of other means.
