Water Boilers: Time To Save Your Budget And The Planet

Water boilers are estimated to discharge 60% of domestic CO2 gases into the atmosphere. Though replacing an old boiler seems expensive, doing so will contribute to a cleaner planet. Cutting-edge water heaters have been designed for recovering waste heat that would normally be released into the atmosphere through the flue of a conventional boiler. There is hardly any household that would eagerly pay for the amount of heat wasted. Thanks to condensing boilers, the total consumption of energy drops causing electricity costs to go down as well.

The boiler scrappage scheme

Replacing an old G-rated boiler with an A-rated condensing solution with a full set of heating controls can save one up to £225 a year, while lowering the thermostat by just 1°C could save around £55 per year. Under a boiler scrappage scheme, the British were encouraged to swap energy-consuming devices for condensing heaters as part of the government’s green measures. These eco-friendly water boilers are believed to help households boost their green credentials and save a good deal of money on electricity.

Impressive savings on bills

Before the boiler scrappage scheme was launched in the UK, non-condensing water heaters had been installed in around 3.5 million English houses. The government planned to offer people an incentive up to £500 to upgrade their boilers to A-rated ones and cut down on energy consumption and emission production. According to estimates, an energy efficient boiler delivers average savings on bills of £156 a year, almost a quarter of the total costs for heating and hot water. This means that if they invested £3,000 in an energy-saving boiler and professional installation, they would make their money back within 10 years.

Greener households

Inefficient old-style water boilers were reported to put an extra ton of carbon in the atmosphere each year. According to the Energy Saving Trust, if every British household installed a high efficiency boiler, the amount of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere would drop by 13 million tons. Their condensing counterparts are reported to convert at least 90% of their fuel into heat, which is much better than the efficiency rating of old heaters able to convert as little as 60%. They use the heat from the exhaust gases that would otherwise be lost through the flue and turn it into liquid water or condensate reducing the amount of energy wasted.

One can install a regular condensing model which heats water in a tank or a combination device which supplies instant hot water once the tap is turned on. Households can make additional savings by installing a full set of heating controls at the same time as replacing old water boilers. They’ll have a time programmer, room thermostat, a cylinder thermostat for regular heaters and thermostatic radiator valves.

The British are getting more concerned about domestic pollution. This is why energy-efficient water heating devices have gained a solid reputation as effective solutions for eco-friendly households. The fact that they can greatly reduce electricity expenses makes them even more attractive for consumers. For many, A-rated water boilers are the right investment during the current economic crisis.
