Selecting The Right Fuse For Fuse Replacement
Safety is always the main concern of everyone especially when it comes to electricity. Compare to circuit breaker that only needs to be reset when it tripped, the fuse has to be replaced once it has blown. Fuse is a sacrificial protection device that should be replaced once it has done its purpose. Fuse replacement is one of those simple electrical works which can be done by typical homeowner. However you have to follow safety measure when doing fuse replacement so that electrical hazards can be avoided.
Fuses come in different sizes from small glass tubes to large main electrical service equipment and these devices are rated on the voltage they can control, speed of interruption and their size. There are steps needed in order to choose the type of fuse whether for replacement or for a new application. You must first identify the type of voltage that is being protected because fuse is not only rated by the amount of voltage but as well as if it is direct current or alternating current. Other types of fuses have specific diameter and length while other types of fuses of the same voltage and rating will not fit in that particular holder.
Inspect the fuse for internal element replacement. A metal fuse strip is replaced into the round cartridge then the circuit can be reset for power. Mostly fuse elements are sold in separated boxes as well as rated in the same way as a sacrificial fuse. Use a fuse that has an inspection window.
