HID kit definition
The “HID” refers to High Intensity Discharge while kit refers to set of components used to convert existing halogen bulbs to HID technology. HID kit is usually referring to Xenon HID light or Xenon kit as this is related to the very nature of the product itself, a mixture of xenon gasses and metal salt particles pressurized inside the bulb. Once ignited these gasses will make a super boosted spot of light which is highly ranked on a spectrum scale sometimes even over five thousand Kelvins which makes daylight blue and purple color of light.
Commonly HID kits are consisting of two igniters and two bulbs. Really important but rarely mentioned part of HID kit is a resistor. Normally installed set of lights based on halogen creates resist of approximately six ohms which is made by carbon filament. Once replaced, halogen based system takes away the resistance that was initially installed, and the new, xenon based system becomes resistance free as there is no filament anymore. This can cause confusion in car’s electrical system and its computer might show up errors and cause turning lights off right after they flash few times. To prevent this resistors should be added in the new xenon based HID light outputs as this will help the computer that bulbs are existing and are working properly. Installation itself is relatively easy most of the time as you don’t need to be a nuclear physic scientist to connect few fires and follow simple step-by-step guide that comes with each HID kit you buy. For those who are not willing to play their own mechanic installation takes up to 30 minutes maximally at nearest mechanic shop or car service. The HID kit produces different color of light and there is misunderstood opinion spread among majority of public that Kelvin temperature dictates the brightness of the light which is not a case. Daylight blue color of the light is not punishable by authorities, while other colors crossing 6,000 Kelvins, such as deep blue or even purple might result in a ticket being written for you. Colors over 6,000 Kelvins are commonly used on car shows and vehicle fairs or off-road entertaining activities, but on-street these colors will usually attract the attention of the officer on duty. The most suitable light for drivers is set on 4,300 Kelvins as this is the daylight tone of light in its brightest moment, the afternoon daylight. This light offers the most vividness and contrast spotting with no blind spots. Distinctive “daylight blue” color offers high safety for the driver and ability to recognize incoming traffic and off-rode objects such as animals or building silhouettes that might cause distraction if spotted too late.
The HID kits cause a lot of polemic and debate as this is certainly a technology in a breakthrough on world’s wide market. The most of polemics are lead about how xenon based HID lights are affecting the opposite direction drivers since this type of light can cause glare and possible car crash, although, no car crash has found in records with a cause of HID lights glare.
