The first thing you need to know is that solar panels are installed over a flat surface like the roof of your home. And after you’ve connected them properly they start storing solar energy through the conducting materials that the panels are developed with such as silicone.

Electrons are then shaken loose from their atoms in order to effectively produce electricity. The process in which light is stored and converted into energy such as electricity is called the photovoltaic effect

After that process has completed you now have D/C electricity which is now pushed through an inverter where it is converted into 120 volt AC which is the very type of electricity that we need to power the homes we live in. And this source is connected to your power panel in your home in order to send the power to your appliances.

If you already don’t use a lot of energy, the energy you don’t used will be put into a battery where it will be stored and can be used in emergency situations when your power goes out. If your battery becomes full the excess energy that is being collected by your solar panels can be sent back into your local power grid, which can also put money in your pocket instead of theirs!

The flow of electricity of solar energy, just like normal electricity, is measured using a utility meter. The meter will move backward when you produce more energy than what you need to power your home. It will move forward when you aren’t quite producing enough and need energy from your local power company to compensate. As mentioned above, any surplus energy can be sold back to your local power grid for cold hard cash to put back in your wallet!

A lot of people use this energy on a small scale to only produce enough in order to heat their water heaters.

As you can see, turning sunlight into solar energy is very much easy. Not to mention it’s much cleaner and way cheaper than using sources like oil and coal!

Go figure, the government has yet to increase a budget in order to further the research of solar energy, though. Researched peaked in the 1970′s in the last oil crisis. And now it’s starting to brink on the edge of busting out yet again. It’s a poweful energy source and if you do your research right you can even figure out how to build your own solar panels to power your home for a fraction of the cost of a purchased pre-made solar system! It can save you tons and even pay you back if you manage to store more energy that you need!
