Easy Repair and Clean Your Dell 310-9049 AC Adapter
When there are some problems of the ac adapters, the first idea come to our mind is buying a new one online, because the ac adapter is very cheap and very convenient of purchasing online. It is true that a damaged AC adapter cord can render your entire laptop useless. If the problem is simply a short in the wire, that is a fix you can perform on your own. It requires reconnecting the wires, so there is some disassembly of the cord involved. The good news is that it can be completed in a few minutes.
Try to prepare these two tools, which could greatly help your process: wire cutters , electrical tape.
Turn on your laptop with the adapter plugged in. Work your way along the cable with your fingers, pinching the cable as you go.
Watch the indicator light on the adapter. When it blinks at the area you are pinching, you will have found the short.
Strip the cable sheath about an inch where you found the short. Be careful not to cut the actual wires inside the sheath.
Locate the frayed ends of the wires and twist the ends together so they are secure.
Wrap the opening in the cord with electrical tape to cover the gap. The short will now be fixed.
After the above simple process, the ac adapter plug turning normal. What’s more, if you just find the ac adapter is getting dirty, it is better for you to clean it entirely, which could greatly extend the lifetime of your laptop adapter.
First of all, disconnect the adapter from the wall outlet and the back of the laptop. Make sure no extra items attached on the laptop.
Scrub around the outer ring of the adapter plug with fine-grit sandpaper to remove any obvious corrosion.
Blast the adapter and the hole in the center with the can of compressed air.
Dip cotton swabs in white vinegar and scrub the inside and outer metal ring of the adapter plug. Vinegar is a weak acid that can dissolve minor corrosion to improve the electrical contact between the adapter and the laptop
Wipe the adapter plug with paper towels and allow to dry it completely.
